The shape of the Two Hearts

The symbol of SSPX, how it is formed and what it means.

  • Jesus died out of great love for us all. He said: “Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). The cross above the crown demonstrates our willingness to suffer for love of God and for love of our neighbor.
  • The SSPX, by placing a crown atop these hearts of Jesus and Mary, acknowledges its entire submission to the Son of God and to his Blessed Mother.
We dedicate ourselves to these two hearts, and seek to return love for love, fostering the love of God and of our neighbor above all else. In this way, our love will most resemble the love of Jesus and Mary.
  • The first heart represents the material heart of Jesus, a symbol of his divine love for mankind.
  • The second heart represents the motherly love which Mary offers first to her divine Son and then to all the people of the world, her children.
  • The two entwined hearts symbolize the unity of intention between the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, as well as their union in love for God and for man.
